Hello South Dade High School Classmates!

[09/30/08]

Hope all of you are getting a little excited (as we are) about our next South Dade High School adventure:

I spoke with Terry at Smokey Mountain Accommodations Reservations Coordinator.  Terry said there are still condos available at "The Summit" if anyone is in need of a place to stay.  Most of those who have already committed to attending have made their reservations and secured a place to stay.  However, if you need assistance you can contact Terry toll free at 1 800 231-2230.

Activities will kick off Thursday evening, October 23, with the classmates and friends gathering for an "Informal" dinner at a local  eating establishment.  Friday morning there will be Golf for those interested (Jimmy Simmons needs to hear from you if you have not yet signed up).  Small Group Tours and visits to sites in the Gatlinburg area on Friday are also anticipated.  Be sure to bring some hiking shoes and comfortable clothing.  For the young at heart, swimming is available at the summit!

Friday evening we are planning another "Casual" evening out at a little "More Upscale Restaurant" but still keeping it informal.  We will return to the Recreation Center at The Summit afterwards for more social visiting.

Saturday will be another fun day as shopping and sight seeing tours in the area will be available for folks to get out and enjoy the beauty of Western Tennessee and the area around Gatlinburg.  (Golfing on Saturday is an "option" if there are enough people interested).  Saturday evening, we will gather for a "covered dish supper" at the Recreation Center at "The Summit" and continue our "bonding" activities with good friends and classmates!  Everyone will be encouraged to bring something to eat for this activity.  "50's" music will be provided for your listening enjoyment!

Note:
Back in March and April when we started planning this Mini Reunion, many of you were not sure if you would be able to get away for a few days of fun!  Now that October is here and Fall is in the air, you may have a better handle on your Fall plans and can possibly made the trip over to Gatlinburg for a few days.   The weather is cooling down and the leaves (I am being told) are going to be very colorful this year.  With this thought in mind, we want to extend "another invitation" for you to join us!

I can not think of anything that can be more fun in October than spending time with good friends and classmates from times past.

We'll leave a light on for you...

If you have any questions, please let me hear from you.

Best regards,

[08/15/08]

Recently, Dianne and Evy have put together a list of names of classmates who do not have an e-mail address.  (Can you  imagine that? ).  Any way, Dianne has sent a "snail mail" note out to this group of about 20 to let them know of the activities being planned for Gatlinburg in October.  Hopefully, some of them may be joining those who have already indicated that they will be present.

The folks who have responded thus far and indicated that they "will" or "may" be joining us are as follows:

Paul and Linda Schowalter(?)      Wayne and Cheryl Williams
Ed and Kathy Kufeldt              Adams and Marti Roskind
Cookie and Joe Pelissier          Jim and Jacki Gillis
Sandra and David Parker           Mike Aubke and Rosa Freeland
Joan and Benny Martens            Laney Kiernan
Joe and Carol Marchi              Jimmy and Marilyn Simmons (?)
George and Marianne Brown         Sid and Annette Lewis
John and Susan Price              Earl and Sally Claire (?)
 Lyndal and Linda Douberly (?)

Most of you have received information previously but I wanted to update you on the "status" of the Mini at this point.  If you are "thinking" of joining us, and have not made reservations yet, you are pretty much on your own.  There may still be rooms available at "THE GATLINBURG SUMMIT" and you can contact Terry at 1-800-231-2230 for assistance.

If I can assist you in your planning, please let me know.   Looking forward to seeing many of you in October!

Best Regards,

Activities:

Group activities will be planned for Friday and Saturday evenings.  Some great Art Shows taking place in Gatlinburg and there are plenty of unique shops to visit in the downtown area.  Jimmy Simmons will be setting up a round or two of golf and a must trip will be to visit the Great Smoky National Park.  We should be catching the change of the colors at the height of the fall season!   A relaxed and casual covered dish supper will be part of the Saturday evening activities.

 [June 2, 2008]

So far we have 18 Classmates committed to getting to Gatlinburg, Tennessee in October for the next Mini Reunion of the South Dade Class of '58!

Those who have committed so far are:

 Schowalter's
 Kufeldt's
 Pelissier's
 Williams's.
 Roskins's
 Simmon's
 Martens's
 Kulps's
 Brown's

Others have indicated they are "considering attending" but I have yet to receive a commitment notice.  The initial notice send May 12th, said in part:

A $10.00 deposit (per person) will secure your reservation for this
outing and needs to be sent payable to me at:

George Brown
3216 Del Rio Terrace
Tallahassee, Florida 32312

If you will let me know your intentions by Friday, June 13th.  I will use the number of confirmations I have at that time to make the reservations.  We are looking at a Lodge (for 7 - 9 couples) and a couple of condos  (3 -4 bed Rooms) in the Gatlinburg area.   We will try to get the condos close to where the bigger facility is located to minimize the distance between folks.  We have not been able to locate a single facility large enough for our anticipated 30 people, but with one facility and two condos, we should be able to meet our needs if everyone is OK with sharing living space for the three (3) nights.

For those who prefer to make your own accommodations, they are free to do so. (Let me know when you respond).

For questions, you can write me at numnum01@aol.com or call me in Tallahassee at (850) 385-6313.

Hope to hear from many of you in by the 13th!

Best Regards!

George

[May 16, 2008]

Those who attended the 50th High School Reunion of the Class of  '58 in Homestead last month had a great time!  Those who were not there were missed!  If you were not there or if you had a good time you want to get together again real soon, I have some GOOD NEWS!

The Good Times will continue October!

This will be the "First Notice" for the "Mini in the Mountains" that is being planned for October 23 - 26, 2008!

In keeping with a tradition established after the 40th Reunion, many of us will be trekking to the mountain in a few months to enjoy some cool mountain weather.   In the past, we have enjoyed great times at these "Mini Reunions."  The areas around North Carolina always provide us with some spectacular views of the "changing colors" as the leaves pass from green to their rich fall colors!  Weather is generally accommodating for playing a little golf; shopping in local antique shops; and eating out at unique area restaurants.  The most enjoyable part of these gatherings are being able to share times in the company of good friends and classmates!  (Can life get any better?)

If you are interested in joining us this year, we need to hear from you as soon as possible as reservations may be limited.  We are looking to secure accommodations for about 30 people in a lodge or several condos that will put us in close proximity to each other for the 4 days/3 nights we will be staying.  A place has not yet been selected but we will be exploring places near Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge for our "jumping off" place this year.

A $10.00 deposit (per person) will secure your reservation for this outing and needs to be sent to no later than June 15th.  Send your check payable to me at:

George Brown
3216 Del Rio Terrace
Tallahassee, Florida 32312

There will be another notice regarding this event sent about June 1, 2008.  Do not delay in responding if you are interested in participating in this "Mini Reunion".

If you have questions you can write me at numnum01@aol.com or call me in Tallahassee at (850) 385-6313.

Best Regards!

George
