Mini-Reunion Retreat - October 25 - 28, 2007

Hello South Dade Rebels!

Just a final note that we will be gathering in Cashiers,North Carolina for the Mini in the Mountains in less than a Month for a few days of relaxing and having a good time with old friends!   (Well, some of us are old...

If you are thinking about going and not yet made your reservations, please do so and come join the 25 who have already made plans to be there.  Past trips to North Carolina have been great as the fall is a wonderful time to enjoy the mild days and cool evenings.  The changing colors of fall are wonderful to behold!  Jimmy Simmons is coordinating a golf outing and some great side trips are available for shopping in the neaby villages!

We are all looking ahead for the Big 50th Reunion next year, so if you miss this Mini in the Mountains, we'll look forward to seeing you in Homestead in 2008!

If you need any information regarding the Mini in October, send me a note or call me at 850-385-6313.

Best Regards!

Hello Fellow South Dade Rebels from Class of 1958!

For most of you this is a follow up to an earlier note regarding the planned Mini Retreat in Cashiers, North Carolina now being scheduled for four days and three nights - October 25 - 28, 2007.  Hope many of you will be able to join in this annual Fall Event!

Before getting into more details, I want to call your attention to a web site set up by Classmate Rolf Burti for accessing information on this as well as information on our 50th High School Reunion being planned for 2008!  (Yes, it has been 50 years!!)

If you have not responded, or your status has changed, please let me know as we will be updating this site with new information in a few days.  (Be sure to check back)

If you are going to be joining us in the North Carolina mountains for this fall gathering of good friends and old acquaintances, read on for information on rooms and places to stay.

High Hampton Inn

High Hampton Inn will be the site for this year Retreat.   Due to another scheduled event, I am informed that there are very limited single rooms available at this location.  (See below for motel accommodations close by at the Laurel Wood Motel)

Near the Hampton Inn location are a number of homes that can be rented for the three nights and shared with class mates.  These are in close proximity to one another and gives the occupants full access to all the Amine ties at the Hampton site.

Staying in houses has worked well at past mini reunions in the mountains and is again being encouraged.  Go to the Hampton Inn web site and you can see what they have available in the 2, 3, 4, and 5 bed room houses.

I have spoken with Brenda and she has given me the following rates:

2 Bed Room    $290 Per night

3 Bed Room    $340 per night

4 Bed Room    $384 per night

5 Bed Room    $430 per night

(Taxes and activity fees are not included)

Brenda can be reached at 800/334-2551 for assistance in making your reservations.

Please contact others (names will be on the South Dade Web site listed above) whom you might consider sharing a house with and then call to make your own reservations.  If you do not have anyone particular in mind to share with, I will be glad to try and hook folks up with each other.  Just let me know, OK?

Laurel Wood Mountain Inn

Located about 1 and 1/2 miles from the High Hampton Inn in Cashiers is the Laurel Wood Motel that has cabins and rooms available at reasonable rates from $79 top $99 per night.  You can check these out on their web site by clicking on:   Laurelwood Mountain Inn - Welcome!

You can also reach them at the toll free number of   800/ 346-6846 for more information and for making your reservations.  (They have handicap accessible rooms available at this location.)

As in the past, we will be arriving on Thursday, October 25 and departing on Sunday, October 28.  In between will be plenty of opportunities to catchup with "old friends"  ( I use this term lightly);  golfing;  shopping; hiking; eating out; partying; or just having a relaxing vacation in North Carolina watching the leaves change while enjoying the cool fall weather.  (There must be a song here somewhere...)

Having read this far, I am sure you are ready to connect with other classmates and start making your plans and confirming your reservations to participate in this retreat!

Let me know if you have any questions or if you would like for me to assist in you with your planning.

Marianne and I are looking forward to seeing many of you in October and to seeing "ALL" of you at the 50th Reunion in 2008!

Best regards.

"Hard as Nails, Really Great, Senior Class of '58"
Go Rebels!

Heads up South Dade Rebels!!

Back in June, Joan sent out the following note to all of us asking if we would be interested in a Mini-Reunion In North Carolina in October.

"This is a site that bears investigation for a mini this October.  As always there is something for the golfers, hikers, shoppers, etc. so when you get a chance please look at the site and let me know if this would be "doable" for you the last weekend in October.  If so, no matter how many sign up, we will go with this mini."

I learned in a recent e-mail from Joan, that only a couple of folks responded expressing an interest in an October Mini!  (I was one of those who did not respond.  Shame on me!)

Joan was ready to cancel the MINI thinking that many of the class are looking ahead to our 50th High School Reunion in April 2008, and may not be interested in a trip to North Carolina in October!

Based on the Good Times we have shared at these mountain retreats over the past several years, I volunteered to send another note to Classmates to see if we might salvage this Mini.  (It would be for 4 days and 3 nights at the High Hampton Inn at Cashiers, North Carolina).    You can check out the accommodations at:

I have sent an inquiry to the Hampton Inn to check on availability of accommodating a group of 20 to 35.  If you are interested in, please respond as soon as possible.   It only takes a few moments to send a note, so let me know if you are interested in joining us in October.

Best wishes to all!

George Brown

PS:  Remember, this "Bonus" get together has no affect on the 50th Re-union being planned for April 2008.  Joan has indicated that about 120 people have already signed up to attend so it will certainly be a great reunion for all of us!!
